Coast Guard Pulls Man From Car Accident

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Coast Guard rescue crew pulled a man from a sport utility vehicle in a marsh near Clouter Creek, S.C., and brought him to the hospital Friday morning.

Two men were traveling in an SUV when they lost control of the vehicle and fell approximately 90-feet off a causeway into the marsh. A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston flying in the area immediately diverted to the scene upon notification from local authorities.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene and lowered their rescue swimmer to the two men trapped in the SUV. The helicopter crew hoisted one of the unresponsive men and brought him to the Medical University of South Carolina for immediate medical attention. The second man could not be removed from the SUV by the Coast Guard rescue swimmer.

The names of the men in the car accident are being held pending notification to their next of kin. Both of the men have been pronounced dead by local authorities.
