HOUSTON – The Coast Guard assisted a sinking fishing boat about 12 miles south east of Sabine, Texas, this morning.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call at 5:08 a.m. from the captain of a nearby vessel reporting a fishing boat named Thuan Hai was sinking.
Coast Guard Station Sabine dispatched a rescue boat crew to attempt to dewater the boat. When the rescue boat crew arrived at the Thuan Hai, they found that more than 10 feet of water had come in. Station Sabine dispatched another rescue boat to assist.
