Coast Guard Presents Public Service Commendation to Former U.S. Attorney

CLEVELAND – Rear Adm. John E. Crowley, Jr., Commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, presented the Coast Guard Public Service Commendation to U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory A. White Tuesday.

The award recognized White’s contributions to the Coast Guard during his tenure as the U. S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

Crowley praised White’s efforts in assisting the Coast Guard to protect Lake Erie and the citizens who use the Lake for recreation. White shared the Coast Guard’s concern over the number of intoxicated boaters the Coast Guard encountered annually on Lake Erie.

White was instrumental in persuading local prosecutors to accept intoxicated boater cases discovered by the Coast Guard. In addition, his office also prosecuted five intoxicated boater cases in federal court.

The award also cited White’s committment to protect Lake Erie and its vast resources from marine pollution.
