Coast Guard presents award to fishing boat crew

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to present the Coast Guard Public Service Commendation Award to the crew of the fishing boat Tranquila during a ceremony at Coast Guard Station Indian River, Del., Friday, Feb. 20.

The crew of the Tranquila assisted Coast Guard crews in the rescue of five boaters after their 18-foot boat sank on Oct. 9, 2008, seven miles off the coast of Reoboth Beach.

The Tranquila crew treated the survivors for hypothermia and used exceptional navigation skill to locate the boaters.

The crew of the Tranquila stayed on scene throughout the night and assisted the Coast Guard crews in searching for the remaining missing boater.
