SAN DIEGO, Calif., – Coast Guard Port Security Unit (PSU) 311, based out of San Pedro, Calif., departed from the North Island Naval Air Station today on its way to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Unit is comprised of reservists specializing in port and land security missions.
On Sunday, the members and families of the PSU were treated to a picnic and Family Day at the Coast Guard Air Station in San Diego. The Commanding Officer, CDR Ken Stefanisin presented awards to a number of unit members and praised the unit for their dedication and service.
The unit will conduct joint security missions with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army in and around the Country of Kuwait.
