CLEVELAND – Coast Guard pollution investigators are en route to the We Energies power facility in Oak Creek, Wisc., following reports of a landslide there which sent a vehicle and construction equipment into Lake Michigan Monday morning.
Employees from We Energies confirmed all personnel have been accounted for, and there are no reported injuries.
A boatcrew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium from Coast Guard Station Milwaukee is on scene and reported a strong diesel-fuel odor in the area. One pickup truck, one front-end loader, several shipping containers and two 250-gallon diesel-fuel tanks were reportedly affected by the landslide and remain unaccounted for.
It is currently unknown how much fuel may be in the water or what caused the incident.
Responding are Coast Guard pollution investigators from Sector Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, the RB-M crew from Station Milwaukee, Oak Creek Police and Fire Departments and personnel from We Energies.
