SAN FRANCISCO – Coast Guard boarding team members, from Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, and the San Francisco Police Department are conducting safety and security inspections on piers and aboard ferries throughout Fleet Week 2010.
The boarding team members searched for potential hazards that could compromise the safety and security of Fleet Week events.
The safety of Fleet Week patrons and performers is the Coast Guard’s and partner federal, state and local agencies’ primary focus during this year’s events.
Sector San Francisco conducts a variety of missions including homeland security, search and rescue, law enforcement, boating safety, aids to navigation and marine environmental protection with a vast area of responsibility reaching into the San Joaquin Delta, out to Lake Tahoe, north to Bodega Bay and south to Monterey.
More than 3,000 Coast Guardsmen, Sailors and Marines are currently scheduled to participate in SFFW 10.
