Coast Guard patrols Columbia Cup boat races in Kennewick

Pacific Northwest Coast Guard NewsKENNEWICK, Wash. — Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Kennewick hosted another successful Columbia Cup Coast Guard safety mission this weekend.

Coast Guard crews from Sector Columbia River’s Station Portland, Ore., Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., and Aids to Navigation Team Kennewick, local Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 85 and other 13th Coast Guard District auxiliary crews from Oregon and Washington were on the river all weekend to enforce no-wake zones and anchor boundary lines for the annual Columbia Cup boat races.

Staging from the Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Station on Clover Island in Kennewick, teams not only enforced rules but encouraged safety and actively protected the public from dangers posed by heat, recreational boaters, high-speed hydroplane boats and the swift current near the place where the three rivers meet.
