Coast Guard partners with Canadians for water rescue

GRAND MANAN ISLAND, New Brunswick, Canada- The Coast Guard in conjunction with Rescue Coordination Center Halifax rescued three people from the fishing vessel Winddancer II, eight miles South of Grand Manan Island, Sept. 13, 2010 at 3:21 p.m.

Coast Guard Sector Northern New England and RCC Halifax received a mayday call on VHF-FM channel 16, from the Canadian fishing vessel Winddancer II that they were taking on water at around 2:30p.m.

RCC Halifax requested assistance through the First Coast Guard District Command Center in Boston, as well as, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England. Sector Northern New England launched Coast Guard Station Eastport at 2:45 p.m.

A 25-foot rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Eastport along with a Canadian C-130 aircraft, and a Canadian rescue helicopter arrived on scene at around 3:21 p.m., where they recovered all three people that were on board the Winddancer II.

All of the people were in good condition and were transferred to the Canadian Department of Natural Resources.
