SEATTLE — The Coast Guard, federal, state and local agencies are scheduled to hold a joint training exercise in Port Townsend Bay aboard the Washington State Ferry Kennewick, Saturday
A Coast Guard aircrew from Air Station Port Angeles, Washington, is scheduled to participate and will remain capable to respond to any emergency situation in the region
The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate how separate agencies will come together to respond to emergency incidents aboard a ferry and evaluate interagency communications
During the exercise, the Kennewick will be transiting between Port Townsend Bay and the Port Townsend ferry dock. Helicopters from the Coast Guard and Northwest Regional Aviation will interact with responders on the ferry and land at Memorial Field in Port Townsend between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m
Participants include personnel from Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services, Jefferson County emergency response agencies, Washington State Ferries, Seattle Fire Department, Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue, Oak Harbor Police Department, Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management, Jefferson Healthcare and Airlift Northwest.
