ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Coast Guard and partner agencies will be enforcing a temporary safety zone in the St. Petersburg Municipal Yacht Basin during the Firestone Grand Prix of St.Petersburg this weekend.
The temporary safety zone will be in effect extending out to 300 feet from the basin sea wall of St. Petersburg Municipal Yacht Basin. The zone will be in place to protect personnel and vessels from the danger associated with a hot race course in close proximity to the water.
The zone will be in enforced and in effect from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. March 4 – 6. The Coast Guard will continue to broadcast the notice to mariners on VHF-FM channel 16 throughout the weekend.
No vessel or person will be permitted to enter the zone without authorization of the Captain of the Port of St. Petersburg, Capt. Gregory Case or his designated representative. Persons and vessels may request authorization to enter, transit through, anchor in, or remain within the regulated area by contacting the Captain of the Port St. Petersburg by telephone at (727) 824-7506, or a designated representative via VHF radio on channel 16.
Any person entering the zone without permission is subject to civil penalties.
