NEW YORK — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a possible missing person in the water near Long Beach, New York, Monday.
The eight-hour search was suspended after search and rescue crews saturated the area by air and sea with no results and no additional leads.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Jones Beach received a phone call from the Long Beach Police Department about a missing swimmer. Two good Samaritans stated they saw a person at Long Beach, near Franklin Boulevard, enter the water and did not resurface.
The good Samaritans reported the missing person as a white male wearing gym shorts and no shirt, about 6-feet tall, 180-200 pounds, and 30-50 years of age.

- A Coast Guard Station Jones Beach 47-Motor Lifeboat crew
- A Coast Guard Station Fire Island 47-Motor Lifeboat crew
- A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
- A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, HC-144 Ocean Sentry crew
- Crews from the Nassau County Police, Marine, and Helicopter Unit
- Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department
- Atlantic Beach Fire Rescue
- Freeport Fire Department
