Grand Rivers, Ky.— The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a missing person in the Cumberland River near Grand Rivers.
Missing is Tanya Sheffer, 52.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah, received a call from local agencies that Sheffer’s boyfriend saw her go under the water and not resurface. Sheffer has a history of seizures. She was last seen swimming with a throwable square cushion wearing a two-piece white-and-pink bathing suit.
Joint Coast Guard and first responder agencies from Kentucky are currently searching an area of 6.2 miles in the vicinity of Grand Rivers.
Search-and-rescue resources deployed are:
One Coast Guard MSU Paducah 25-foot Response Boat — Small boatcrew;
Two Lyon County Rescue Squad boatcrews;
One Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources boatcrew.
The Coast Guard recommends all boaters and water enthusiasts file a float plan with family or a friend. Include all information that would help rescuers in case of an emergency; how many people on board, where you are going, how long you will be out and a description of your boat. However, do not file float plans with the Coast Guard.
