EGMONT KEY, Fla. — Three people were rescued by the Coast Guard and partner agencies from a 25-foot boat after it began taking on water 10 miles west of here, Sunday.
A member aboard the boat contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 8:01 p.m. via VHF-FM radio reporting they were taking on water and in need of assistance.
A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crew and an Eckerd Search and Rescue crew arrived on scene and safely removed all three people from the vessel.
No injuries were reported.
“All three people were wearing a life jacket, and they had a marine band radio, flares, and flashlights aboard the vessel,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Josh Chears-Stevens, an operations unit controller at the sector. “Having this safety equipment aboard, greatly aided in responding to them quickly before the situation deteriorated.”
