Coast Guard, partner agencies rescue 2, still searching for 1 in Lake Erie near Luna Pier, Mich.

CLEVELAND – The Coast Guard and partnering agencies are searching for a 34-year-old man swept out into Lake Erie near Luna Pier, Michigan, Sunday morning.

At 9:45 a.m., a search-and-rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Detroit received notification from the Monroe County, Michigan, 911 dispatch of three people swept out into Lake Erie near the J. R. Whiting Power Plant, just south of Luna Pier.

A rescue boat crew aboard 25-foot response boat launched from Coast Guard Station Toledo, Ohio, and a rescue aircrew aboard a Dolphin helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit.

A rescue boat crew from the LaSalle, Michigan, Fire Department arrived on scene first and rescued two of the people from the water.

The Coast Guard along with rescue crews from Monroe County, Luna Pier Fire and Police departments, and the LaSalle Fire Department are currently searching for the remaining person.

None of the three people were wearing life jackets.
