SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are responding to a 33-foot commercial fishing vessel that ran aground near Rippers Cove off the coast of Catalina Island, Monday evening.
Fishermen aboard the Cutty Shark II contacted Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders via VHF-FM channel 16 at approximately 8:50 p.m., reporting the vessel was taking on water.
The vessel ran aground and the fishermen made their way to shore, where they were rescued by Baywatch Isthmus personnel.
Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach pollution responders and partner agencies are working with the vessel’s owner to coordinate recovery efforts and to ensure proper actions are taken to mitigate any environmental threat. The vessel reportedly has 200 gallons of diesel fuel onboard.
