HOUSTON — The Coast Guard, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing man Saturday and have located the body of another after two men were reported missing Friday evening, while boating on Lake Charles in Louisiana.
A concerned family member contacted Coast Guard Station Lake Charles Friday at 11:20 p.m. reporting the two men went fishing aboard a 16-foot jon boat and did not return home.
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries crews recovered the body of a man at 4:53 a.m., approximately a quarter mile south of the Isle of Capri Casino. The body is currently at the coroners office for conclusive identification.
The jon boat was located at 6:23 a.m., overturned in the water approximately 300-feet to the south of where the body was located.
“The Coast Guard is working with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office to locate the missing men,” stated Elvie Damaso, a command center controller for Sector Houston-Galveston. “We are using both air and surface assets and have searched for approximately 20 hours so far.”
Currently searching are crews aboard:
- Two response boats from Station Lake Charles
- An MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Houston
- Assets from Louisiana Fish and Wildlife
- Assets from the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff’s Office
