CAPE MAY, N.J. — Active duty members of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, as well as recruits, participated in Cape May Elementary School’s Read Across America event, Wednesday, at the school’s auditorium.
Members of the training center command including Cmdr. Joe Meuse, the executive officer of the training center, read books to groups of children ranging from those in Kindergarten to those in the sixth grade.
“This event is a great example of how the Coast Guard and the community interact in positive and meaningful ways,” said Meuse. “For our recruits, they get a chance to see that interaction up close and personal and get an understanding of how important the Coast Guard’s relationship is in the communities in which we live and work.”
Cape May Elementary is the official school for the training center’s Partnership in Education program.
