SAN FRANCISCO – Coast Guard and Pacifica Fire Department personnel are searching for a person in the water last seen near Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, Sunday.
At 4:56 p.m., Sunday, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco launched assets to assist Pacifica Fire Department, who was responding to a surfer reported to be facedown in the water 100 yards off of Rockaway Beach.
The Coast Guard launched a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco and a motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Golden Gate to assist local responders who established an incident command post and attempted to recover the person from shore.
Shortly before Coast Guard rescue assets arrived on scene, Pacifica Fire Department and Daly City Police lost visual of the person. The Coast Guard and Pacifica Fire Department continue to search for the person, who was last seen in a black wet suit, face down in the water.
The identity of the missing person is unknown at this time. Pacifica Fire Department and the Daly City Police continue to query people in the area.
The Coast Guard requests anybody who may know the identity of the missing person to call 911 or the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Command Center at 415-399-3451.
The search is ongoing.
