Coast Guard official cleared of criminal intent in shooting

Brad Dicken of The Chronicle-Telegram reports from Elyria, Ohio that:

A U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant commander who shot his stepson in the leg earlier this year won’t face criminal charges.

A county grand jury declined to indict Donald Lajavic Jr., 50, on the felonious assault charge he had initially faced after Lorain police completed their investigation into the July 28 shooting.

“There was no probable cause he knowingly fired to cause his stepson harm,” said Assistant County Prosecutor Dave Muhek, who presents cases to the grand jury.
