JUNEAU, Alaska – A team of Coast Guard examiners from Coast Guard Sector Juneau will visit Yakutat next week to conduct voluntary safety exams on commercial fishing vessels and uninspected passenger vessels. Commercial fishermen and uninspected passenger vessel operators whose boats pass the exams will be less likely to face a Coast Guard boarding at sea.
Fishing vessel exams will be available Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Fishermen who wish to schedule safety exams should contact Petty Officer Estrella Marin. Prior to Tuesday, call (907) 463-2454. After Tuesday, call (772) 519-4742.
Uninspected passenger vessel exams will be available Wednesday through Thursday. Uninspected passenger vessel operators who wish to schedule safety exams should contact Lt. Nick Neely at (907) 957-1272. Advanced scheduling is recommended.
