BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rescuers from the Coast Guard, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and other local agencies continue the search for a man who may have fallen into the Niagara River, Monday night.
At around 10:40 p.m., Monday, the Coast Guard received notification from Niagara County of a 51-year-old male from Lewiston, New York, who went missing while shoveling snow earlier that night.
Local authorities conducted a search of the area and found footprints in the snow leading down to the Niagara River.
The Coast Guard, Niagara County Sheriff’s Department, Lewiston Police Department and Lewiston Fire Department searched the area and were unable to locate the man. Lewiston Fire Department searched by boat until ice flow in the river made search conditions too dangerous to continue.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Niagara continue to search the shoreline and a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit conducted searches Tuesday morning.
