PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard and the Navy are scheduled to remove two buoys from the Oceanview and Chick’s Beach areas of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Tuesday.
The buoys washed ashore during the recent storms that passed through the Hampton Roads region.
Navy assets from Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek will tow the buoys off the beach and into the Chesapeake Bay, where a crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew will hoist them aboard, assess them for damage and then return the buoys to their assigned navigational positions.
The Coast Guard is asking that the public stay clear of the beached buoys, as they could be unstable and unsafe to climb.
The Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew is a 175-foot Coastal Buoy Tender homeported in Portsmouth.
