Coast Guard, Navy to conduct joint exercise in St. Marys River Thursday

Southeastern Coast Guard News
KINGS BAY, Ga. — The Coast Guard and Navy will be conducting a joint exercise in the St. Marys River at the Florida-Georgia border Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to test the Coast Guard’s ability to respond if a security incident occurred during a U.S. Naval vessel escort.

During the exercise, Coast Guard, Navy, and other federal, state and local agencies’ boats will be present at the entrance to St. Marys River participating in the exercise.

Boaters are advised they may hear chatter over VHF-FM marine radio and can expect to see an increased presence of law enforcement vessels near the St. Marys River entrance Thursday in response to the drill.

The Coast Guard reminds area boaters to be aware of their surroundings and to look out for law enforcement boats during the one-day exercise.

Boaters should direct any questions or concerns to the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center at 904-564-7511. Any media concerns should be directed to Coast Guard public affairs at 305-318-1864.
