Coast Guard monitors successful removal of grounded vessel in Brookings, Ore.

13th Coast Guard District NewsASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard monitored the successful removal of fishing vessel Josias in Brookings, Ore., Wednesday.

The vessel was safely floated off the rocks and towed to a slough near Harbor Ice at the Port of Brookings Harbor at 3 p.m., Monday, where it remained until Northwest Marine Services contractors used a crane to remove it from the water.

The vessel is now on land and no longer poses a pollution threat.

The 52-foot wooden-hulled fishing vessel ran aground in the Chetco River, Ore., Saturday near the north jetty.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, Ore., Incident Management Division hired Northwest Marine Services out of North Bend, Ore., Sunday, to remove the vessel from the waterway.
