Coast Guard Monitors Grounded Party Boat

NIANTIC, CT.–The Coast Guard is monitoring a party fishing boat that ran aground one mile from Niantic CT., at around 2 p.m. today.

The 65-foot vessel Black Hawk II, owned by Black Hawk II LLC, was carrying 35 passengers from the Niantic Bay Marina to fish when the vessel ran around on rocks. The Coast Guard received notification over marine band radio at around 2 p.m.

Multiple Good Samaritans responded within minutes to assist the Black Hawk. and its 28 passengers were removed by Good Samaritans. The six person crew is still aboard.

There are no reports of injuries.

“It is situations like these that the help of Good Samaritans is greatly appreciated by the Coast Guard,” said Petty Officer Jonathan Cinquegrana, a Sector Long Island Sound operational unit controller. “With all passengers safely removed, we can now concentrate on removing the vessel and getting it back to port as safe as possible.”

A 41-foot rescue boat crew from Station New London is on scene.
