Coast Guard monitors grounded fishing vessel near South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – U.S. Coast Guard crews are monitoring a fishing vessel that ran aground near Danford Cove, Feb.19, 2010.

The fishing vessel Rachel T had four crewmembers that made it to shore safely after running aground at approximately 4:45 a.m.

Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received notification from the vessel’s captain that the vessel ran aground on the beach.

A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew, from Coast Guard Station South Portland, along with the Maine Marine Patrol and Cape Elizabeth Fire Department responded. Crews were unable to assist from the sea due to low water depth.

A pollution and salvage company have been working on scene to secure the vessel and will attempt to re-float the vessel at high tide.

There are no signs of pollution.
