Coast Guard monitors Bald Head Island ferry refloating – video

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard Station Oak Island boat crew oversaw the refloating of the Bald Head Island Ferry Adventure Thursday in the vicinity of Battery Island near Southport, N.C.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. during high tide, the crew aboard the tugboat Cape Hatteras from the Moran Towing Company pulled the Adventure ferry free and towed the ferry up the Cape Fear River to Wilmington Marine Center.

The ferry Adventure ran aground Tuesday with 53 passengers aboard.

Coast Guard investigators are working to determine the cause of the grounding.
