VENTURA, Calif. – The Coast Guard along with Ventura County Sheriff's Department and Ventura Harbor Patrol, are working together to minimize the potential for environmental impact from a grounded vessel located south of the Ventura Harbor entrance.
Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara responded to the report of the grounded vessel at Surfer’s Knoll Beach, and is working with the city to oversee cleanup efforts.
The owner of the vessel contracted an environmental cleanup company to remove 378 gallons of diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid and oily bilge water aboard the vessel. Ventura County Sheriff's Department will attempt to refloat the vessel and remove it from the beach.
The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with the County of Ventura, Ventura Harbor Patrol and the environmental cleanup company.
