Coast Guard medevacs 1 near Cape Charles, Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a man who was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack while aboard a motor vessel two nautical miles off of Cape Charles Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a report from the captain of the NOAA ship Thomas Jefferson at 11:30 p.m., that a crewmember was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.

A 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Charles was launched at 11:49 p.m., to assist.

The boat crew arrived on scene and transported the man and the medical technician from aboard the M/V Thomas Jefferson to emergency medical technicians waiting at Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles at 12:11 a.m.

The emergency medical technicians then transferred the man to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.
