Coast Guard medically evacuates woman from freighter in Lake St. Clair

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. — The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a 50-year-old woman from a freighter in Lake St. Clair at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The woman was a crewmember on the Ryerson, a 730-foot freighter.

A Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores launched a 33-foot special purpose craft/law enforcement response boat. The crew recovered the crewmember who was suffering from symptoms of a stroke.

She was taken to an awaiting Emergency Medical Services ambulance and transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Detroit.
