Coast Guard medically evacuates snorkeler near Rock Reef, Florida

MIAMI — Crewmembers with Coast Guard Station Islamorada, Fla., medically evacuated a 54-year-old male in the vicinity of Rock Reef, Fla., Saturday.

Saturday afternoon, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West, Fla., received a report of a snorkeler having difficulty breathing when pulled aboard a motor vessel. The remaining four people aboard the vessel could not navigate the 44-foot boat and requested Coast Guard assistance.

After consulting with a flight surgeon, the snorkeler was recommended for medical evacuation and crewmembers from Station Islamorada were launched. Once Coast Guard personnel arrived on scene, the crewmembers transported the snorkeler to Bud and Ruth’s Marina where emergency medical personnel awaited for further care.
