Coast Guard medically evacuates passenger from Carnival cruise ship Fascination

Southeastern Coast Guard NewsJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Mayport, Fla., medically evacuated a Taylorsville, N.C., woman from a cruise ship near Mayport after she fell and broke her leg Saturday evening.

Staff on the Carnival cruise ship Fascination contacted Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville at 5:48 p.m. to notify them of the 42-year-old woman’s injury.

After consultation between a Coast Guard flight surgeon and medical personnel aboard Fascination, a medical evacuation was determined necessary. A boatcrew from Station Mayport launched aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium and arrived on scene with the Fascination at 6:28 p.m.

Cruise ship staff worked with the Coast Guardsmen to safely transfer the woman to the RB-M. The boatcrew then took her to Station Mayport, where emergency medical technicians were waiting to transport her to Baptist Medical Center Beaches.
