Coast Guard medically evacuates motorcycle-accident victim off of Beaver Island

9th Coast Guard District NewsCLEVELAND – A Coast Guard aircrew from Air Station Traverse City, Mich., medically evacuated a man off Beaver Island Wednesday night after he was injured in a motorcycle accident.

Paramedics on Beaver Island requested Coast Guard assistance shortly after 9 p.m., reporting the man had severe trauma to his leg following the accident.

A paramedic from Beaver Island remained with the victim while he was flown to Traverse City on the MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter and transferred to local emergency medical technicians. He was further transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“The Coast Guard maintains great working relationships with local first responders and medical personnel at emergency facilities in remote Great Lakes locations like Beaver Island so we’re ready for situations like this one,” said Lt. j.g. Chris Breuer, Air Station Traverse City public affairs officer.
