Coast Guard medically evacuates man on Mackinac Island

ST. IGNACE, Mich.— The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a man from Mackinac Island to St. Ignace, where local Emergency Medical Services were standing by, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Coast Guard Station St. Ignace launched a 47-foot motor life boat MLB in response to a report of a man having chest pains and blurred vision on the island.

“When we picked him up, he was already placed in a stretcher,” said Petty Officer Tyler Benson, coxswain of the 47-foot motor life boat. “He was conscious. He was speaking to his wife and granddaughter, who were on the boat, when we transported him.”

The Coast Guard in St. Ignace effects safe and expeditious transport of those in need of medical attention due to its proximity to Mackinac Island.
