ST. IGNACE, Mich. – The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a man off Mackinac Island, Mich., Wednesday, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Coast Guard Station St. Ignace received a call from a physician at the Mackinac Island Medical Center at approximately 1:15 p.m. The physician requested assistance with transporting a possible stroke victim to a local hospital on the mainland. St. Ignace launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat and recovered the 59-year-old man at 1:26 p.m.
He was transported to the Coast Guard Station were an awaiting Emergency Medical Services ambulance transported him to Mackinac Straights Hospital.
“We provide assistance to people in need of medical attention when they are isolated from proper medical facilities on shore,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Miranda Yarger, coxswain of the 47-foot Motor Life Boat.
