Coast Guard medically evacuates man near Grays Harbor, Wash.

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 60-year-old man off the 42-foot charter fishing vessel Slammer, approximately 10 miles northwest of Grays Harbor, Wash., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received notification at 10:08 a.m. and diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to respond. A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew, from Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor, was also launched in response to the incident.

The helicopter crew was first to arrive on scene and hoisted the man on board at approximately 10:50 a.m.

He was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel at Hoquiam Airport in Hoquiam, Wash., and taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is not being released until next-of-kin notification is made.

The Coast Guard extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased man.
