JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coast Guard members aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Clearwater medically evacuated an ill 45-year-old man 95-miles east of St Augustine, Fla., early Sunday morning.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received a distress call Saturday evening from a man aboard a sailing vessel complaining of severe stomach pains.
The Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew was dispatched, and once on scene, the crew lowered a rescue swimmer to hoist the ill man at 2 a.m., Sunday. The patient was then flown to University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, Fla., for further care.
