HONOLULU – U.S. Coast Guard crewmembers aboard a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, Honolulu, medically evacuated an ill crewmember off the fishing vessel Blue Sky, Sunday.
The 25-year old male was evacuated approximately 100 nautical square miles south west of Oahu, and then flown to Queens Medical Center here.
“The Coast Guard trains for rescues like this all the time, and due to the thorough coordination between the crews of the Blue Sky, Hercules, and Joint Rescue Coordination Center, Honolulu, we were able to successfully provide medical assistance to the ill crewmember,” said Lt. Will Johnson, the rescue helicopter pilot during the mission. “It was a very successful outcome for all involved.”
Editors note – Coast Guard rescue air crewmembers initially responded to this case Friday. A Hercules air crew dropped medical supplies to the Blue Sky’s crew Friday afternoon, so the fishermen could assist their ill crewmember.
