Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston medically evacuates ill fisherman

d7CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated an ill fisherman Sunday approximately 45 miles east of Bull’s Bay, South Carolina.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified of the situation via a distress radio call at approximately 8:27 a.m., Sunday.

The report stated a crewmember aboard the 44-foot fishing vessel Warrior III was suffering chest from pains and stomach complications.

The Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed and recommended the fisherman be medically evacuated from the vessel.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston was launched at 9:34 a.m. The helicopter crew arrived on scene and hoisted the patient at 10:18 a.m. The helicopter crew landed at Air Facility Charleston at 10:58 a.m., and immediately transferred the patient to Emergency Medical Services for further treatment. At the time of the transfer to EMS, the patient was said to be in stable condition.
