Coast Guard medically evacuates diver near Sanibel Island

7th Coast Guard District NewsSANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 40-year-old female diver 45-miles southwest of Sanibel Island Sunday.

At 3:22 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a report regarding a 40-year-old female diver on board a 31-foot angler who had resurfaced too quickly after a dive and was in need of medical assistance.

At 3:42 p.m., a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft, Law Enforcement boat crew from Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Lee County Fire Rescue EMS launched to rendezvoused with the dive vessel 19-miles offshore.

Once on scene at 4:36 p.m., the Coast Guard boat crew transferred the woman onto their vessel and took her back to Station Ft. Myers Beach where local emergency medical personnel were waiting to take her to Gulf Coast Hospital in Ft. Myers.
