Coast Guard medically evacuates diver east of Key Largo, Fla.

45 Curtis BayMIAMI — A 40-year-old female was medically evacuated by a Coast Guard Station Islamorada, Florida, boatcrew six nautical miles east of Key Largo, Florida, Sunday.

At approximate 10:30 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West, Florida, received a request from a commercial diving vessel for a medical evacuation for a female who was experiencing shortness of breath after resurfacing from a dive. After consulting with the flight surgeon, watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched Station Islamorada to respond. The crew aboard the dive vessel administered oxygen and awaited for assistance.

The boatcrew arrived on scene, safely embarked the patient and transported her to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, Florida, where she was last reported to be in stable condition.
