Coast Guard medically evacuates 51-year-old man from Lake Erie near Monroe, Mich.

CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard conducted a medical evacuation Thursday afternoon of an 51-year-old man from a boat on Lake Erie 3 miles north of Monroe, Mich.

Just before 1 p.m., a search-and-rescue controller at Coast Guard Sector Detroit received a request from Monroe County 911 dispatchers to transport the man to emergency medical service personnel waiting on shore. The man was reported to be slipping in and out of consciousness.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Toledo, Ohio, launched aboard a 45-foot response boat.

Sector Detroit also consulted with the Coast Guard 9th District’s duty flight surgeon who also recommended that the man to be taken to a hospital.

The response boat crew transported the man to EMS waiting at the River Raisin Marina, who further transported him to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. The man was last known to be in stable condition.
