Coast Guard Medevacs Woman

MANASQUAN INLET, N.J.– The Coast Guard medevaced a woman yesterday evening who was found unconscious on the beach in Manasquan.

Denise McCarthy, from Brick, N.J., was located on the north side of Manasquan Inlet yesterday evening reportedly unconscious and unresponsive. The Manasquan Police Department notified Coast Guard Station Manasquan and requested assistance in medevacing McCarthy. A 25-foot response boat crew was launched from the station and arrived on scene. McCarthy was secured to a stokes litter, a type of rescue stretcher, and taken back to Station Manasquan where she was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

McCarthy was taken by ambulance to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J.

Among the crew that medevaced McCarthy was Fireman Kyle Vandeven, 21, from St. Petersburg, Fla. This was Vandeven’s first rescue in the Coast Guard. He has been stationed at Coast Guard Station Manasquan since November 2006.
