Coast Guard medevacs woman from dive vessel off Anclote Key

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 44-year-old woman Monday approximately 22-miles west of Anclote Key, Fla.

The Coast Guard was notified at 1:22 p.m. Monday, from crewmembers aboard the recreational dive vessel Main Event, that fellow crewmember Wendy Montell, 44, was in need of medical assistance following the accidental discharge of a power head device, resulting in a leg injury.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew at 1:57 p.m.

The air crew arrived on scene at 2:14 p.m., safely airlifted Montell, and transported her to Tampa General Hospital in reported stable condition.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
