PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a passenger off the cruise ship Queen Mary 2, approximately 110 miles east of Nags Head, N.C., in the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday.
A crewmember aboard the Queen Mary 2 contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at approximately 9:30 a.m. and stated there was a 64-year-old woman aboard with severe abdominal pain.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District Command Center launched crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to perform the medevac.
The helicopter crew took the woman and the ship’s physician aboard at approximately 4:00 p.m. and transferred them to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
