Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship Norwegian Jewel

5th Coast Guard District NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew medevaced a 47-year-old female off a cruise ship approximately 115 miles northeast of Cape Henry Friday.

The captain of the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at approximatly 5 p.m. reporting they had a woman with abdominal pains who was in need of medical attention.

The helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. was dispatched to the scene and hoisted the woman and her husband off the cruise ship at approximately 7 p.m.

They were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
