Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship east of Daytona Beach, Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 78-year-old woman from the cruise ship Carnival Pride approximately 35-miles off the coast of Daytona Beach, Fla., Tuesday.

The Coast Guard was notified at about 4 p.m. Tuesday that a passenger aboard the Carnival Pride had become ill and required medical attention ashore. The Coast Guard flight surgeon concurred after preliminary care aboard the ship proved ineffective.

A HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., arrived on scene at 7 p.m. and transported the patient ashore to Halifax General Hospital in Daytona Beach.
