SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 80-year-old woman from a cruise ship approximately 35 miles west of Point Loma Friday.
At approximately midnight Friday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call from the crew of the cruise ship Carnival Imagination that an 80-year-old female passenger had hit her head and was experiencing severe headaches and nausea.
Sector San Diego’s flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew launched from Coast Guard Station San Diego and embarked the passenger at 2:24 a.m.
At 3:15 a.m., the crew moored at the Harbor Police dock on Shelter Island, where she was transferred to awaiting EMS.
She was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.
Her condition is unknown.
