ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 53-year-old woman from a 39-foot charter boat near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Saturday.

At 1:20 p.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg received a call via VHF-FM marine radio channel 16 reporting a 53-year-old woman had a knee injury and was in need of emergency medical assistance.

A flight surgeon was contacted and recommended the woman be medevaced.

A 45-foot Response Boat Medium boatcrew from the station arrived on scene at 1:32 p.m. and safely transported the woman to the station where EMS was was waiting for further medical assistance. She was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg in stable condition.

Crews from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
